The story of Bodegas Pinord started more than 150 years ago, when the Tetas family began to make wines on their estate at Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues from grapes they grew themselves and vinified in the traditional way. Since then, the wines produced by the family have been growing in prestige and the family name has become inseparably linked to the name of Penedés wine. In 1942 José Maria Tetas established the existing wine cellars at Vilafranca del Penedés, only 4 km from the original estate. At the present time, Pinord has facilities that can produce more than five million bottles a year, whilst retaining the family integrity and quality standards for which they have become well-known in the area. Today, two generations work together in the family business.
This wine is produced in a winery in Rioja with the assistance of the management and oenologists from Pinord. It is then marketed by this well known Penedes producer.
Grapes: 90% Tempranillo, 10% Mazuelo
Vinification: Both grapes varieties were fermented together and the pulp was left to macerate with the skins, but without the stalks, for about 20 days at a temperature of between 25 and 30 degrees. It was kept in special tanks for 12 months during which time it was decanted on three occasions to remove the lees. In autumn of the following year it was put into 225 litre oak casks, where it remained for two years and was decanted twice each year. After this it was bottled and left to settle until it was released onto the market.
Appearance: The wine has a slightly purple, ruby colour with golden gleams from its long period in cask. Much of the colour comes from the Mazuelo grape.
Aroma: The aroma has characteristics from its oak aging - vanilla, black pepper and hints of tobacco.
Taste: Warm fruit flavours with nuances of vanilla and tobacco. It is smooth and medium bodied with a long lasting flavour.
