Arthur Metz Grand Terroir Schiste Cremant d'Alsace

Origin

The vineyard extends from Bas-Rhin to Haut-Rhin, between the Vosges and the Plain of Alsace, from Marlenheim in the North to Thann in the South, reaching 120km in length and 4km in width. 

Vinifcation

The grapes are harvested manually at perfect maturity. Traditional method: second fermentation bottled - "prise de mousse". Ageing on slats which allows the wine to have an incomparable fineness of bubbles and a feeling of generous creaminess.

Soil

The vineyards for this crémant are located is a veritable mine of blue gold. In this location, the producers are working with soil which is 500 million years old. The Blue Schist comes from the compression of the clay at low temperature. This results in hard, foliated stone at its leading edge but more friable stone towards the horizon. This terroir is unique in Alsace. The slope varies between 45% and more than 55% on our parcels, giving the vines optimum exposure that encourages the roots to delve into the various strata, thus drawing from them all the complexity and personality of the future wine.

Tasting Note

Very delicate floral nose with notes of white-fleshed fruit and bergamot. The mouth is clean and fine, lovely fullness on the attack, finishing on a saline touch.  There are sustaining notes of apricot and mirabelle plum for  balance with a perfect structure between acidity and creaminess.

With its unique style, this Crémant Grand Terroir Schieferberg will be a sparkling addition to your table to accompany gourmet dishes such as grilled red mullet with a drizzle of yuzu, served with a sun-dried tomato risotto. Other pairings: sea bream stuffed with herbs, lobster in butter, capon, oysters, etc.  Otherwise enjoy it as a perfect aperitif.
