Producer Note

Château Lestrille is located at the northern point of the Entre-deux-Mers appellation in the small town of St. Germain du Puch between Libourne and Bordeaux. Passionate and dedicated winemaker Estelle Roumage makes modern, elegant wines from sustainably cultivated grapes. The estate is certified with the High Environmental Value Level 3 and Estelle believes the essence of winemaking lies in the vineyard itself; placing considerable emphasis on respecting the balance of the soil. Each plot on the 45-hectare property is vinified separately with tailor-made precision and minimal intervention to respect and optimise the characteristics of the vintage and terroir, creating charming wines with the utmost appeal.

Vineyard

The grapes come from vineyards based in two neighbouring villages: Saint Germain du Puch and Nérigean. The vineyards are located opposite Saint Emilion, on a plateau which sits at around 70 metres elevation. The soils here are rich in clay, which impart good water retention properties helping to sustain the vines during the warm summers. The high clay content also promotes the production of full bodied, concentrated wines. The maritime climate is greatly influenced by the cooling breezes which flow in from the Atlantic and imbue the grapes with natural, balancing freshness. The vines are cultivated organically and the vines are farmed without the use of synthetic sprays; the vineyard has been in conversion to certification since 2020. The vineyard is also certified as Bee Friendly and great attention is paid to the pollinators within the vineyard. Careful canopy management take place to maximise leaf cover and limit yields to concentrate the flavours in the grapes. The vines have been cultivated sustainably since the 1980s, with cover grasses, measures to ensure the optimum fertility of the soils and promotion of biodiversity to promote the longevity of the vineyard. .

Winemaking

The grapes were picked at the optimum harvesting date, to ensure they had reached the perfect level of ripeness and concentration. The timing of the picking is the most crucial step in the winemaking process. The Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes were vinified separately and underwent a long, slow fermentation with selected yeasts. Vinification took place at cool temperatures; this technique helps to preserve the purity of fruit and fine aromatics. The wine was aged in cement vats on its lees for three months to impart delicate texture
